F1 Chinese GP: Raikkonen 'seemed to be doing nothing' in China - Marchionne

Ferrari president Sergio Marchionne is looking to hold talks with Kimi Raikkonen over his form after saying the Finn "seemed to be doing nothing" in Sunday's Chinese Grand Prix.

While Sebastian Vettel has claimed one win and one second-place for Ferrari in the opening two races of the year, Raikkonen has struggled to match his team-mate's pace, finishing fourth in Australia and fifth in China.

Despite sitting ahead of Vettel at one point during Sunday's race in Shanghai, Raikkonen finished 42 seconds behind the German on-track, leading Marchionne to suggest talks with Ferrari team principal Maurizio Arrivabene.

"Today Kimi seemed to have other commitments," Marchionne told La Repubblica. "I talked to Maurizio, maybe it's time I sit with him and talk to him.

"He seemed to be doing nothing on the track."



Vettel lost time while running behind Raikkonen in the early part of the race in China, costing him a chance to catch race leader Lewis Hamilton faster, but Marchionne stressed Ferrari did not consider using team orders.

"It would not be the right thing to do, there were no conditions for such a command," he said.

Vettel's run to second in China means he jointly leads the F1 drivers' championship with Hamilton, marking a turnaround in fortunes for Ferrari after a winless 2016.

While Marchionne is pleased with how the team is performing, he stressed that it must remain grounded and focus on how to improve the SF70H.

"We are happy, no doubt about it. We have made tremendous progress since 2016, and now we go forward.

"But we keep our feet on the ground. The car has to be developed, has to improve, but there is a definite plan."

well, marchionne is correct! kimi was constantly moaning about lack of power, no torque, something wrong etc yet when seb caught him and max slogging it out, rather than let seb pass him, he continued for over 10 laps to hold seb up, when seb was clearly faster. once seb got past kimi, he quickly disposed of max, something kimi couldnt do, and pulled away rapidly. imo, that delay is what cost seb a win, or at least a good chance of pushing lulu.
