The F1 schedule looks set to grow to as many as 20 races in coming seasons, following a request from
FIA president that the teams relent on their insistence that the calendar remain at 16 events.
Mosley has intimated that the 1999 season could contain 18 races, with China, South Africa and Malaysia joining the schedule. The president also proposed that, in order to calm the team's fears over congested schedules and strained budgets, pre-race testing would be restricted, with the Friday of each race meeting becoming an official test day.
The two parties apparently reached an compromise which would allow the calendar to accommodate up to 20 races, provided there is 70 per cent agreement from the teams.
