Reigning Formula One World Champion Fernando Alonso is currently the best racing driver in the world according to the weekly poll run by U.S. based motorsport authority National Speed Sport News.

NSSN, America's weekly motorsports authority for over 70 years, ranks the best drivers from all forms of motorsports and right now, the Renault F1 man is the best in the world thanks to consecutive wins in Malaysia and Melbourne.

In the paper's Power Rankings, Alonso had the top spot ahead of double Champ Car World Series champion Sebastien Bourdais and current NASCAR Nextel Cup points leader Jimmie Johnson.

Alonso is the only European based driver in the top ten, which also includes defending IRL Champion Dan Wheldon (fourth) and current NHRA Top Fuel Drag racing points leader Melanie Troxel.
