Midland MF1 managing director, Colin Kolles has said that it is important they do well at Monza this weekend to end the European season on a high.
Speaking prior to the event, before the final three flyaway events in China, Japan and Brazil, Kolles added that the Silverstone-based squad have been working hard since the last event in order to try and further improve the Toyota-powered M16.
"This is the final race of the European season, so it's important that we finish on a positive note before travelling to China, Japan and Brazil," he confirmed. "Everybody at the factory has worked very hard to make sure we had new parts to bring to this race. We have been making consistent progress all year and I hope we will continue seeing improved results until the end of the season."
Midland's chief race and test engineer, Dominic Harlow meanwhile was pleased with how their three-day test went last week and reckons this should help team drivers, Tiago Monteiro and Christijan Albers to get the best from their cars come race day.
"Testing here last week proved to be enormously beneficial for us, as we have already covered some of the things in our normal Friday practice programme at the test," explained Harlow. "Obviously, we know more about the tyres, so our normal Friday procedure of running through the different tyre options with the race drivers and third driver will not be quite as essential.
"In addition, we better understand the downforce level needed for this circuit. In Monza, engine power is paramount, and the units get a very hard workout, thanks to the long straights and high speeds. As such, we will obviously consider it sensible not to expose them to undue risk or duress during the Friday practice by covering a lot of mileage when it is not absolutely essential, in order to maximise our performance for qualifying and the race."
MF1 Racing have also got a boost of sorts prior to the event having confirmed the addition of Carrera Sunglasses as the official eyewear supplier to the team for the remainder of the season. Carrera sunglasses will be worn by all MF1 Racing personnel.
