Christian Klien's determination to remain in
Formula One next season received a boost after he reported a series of 'positive meetings' with possible employers during the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Left somewhat in the wilderness after being dropped by the
Red Bull Racing team in favour of Mark Webber, and then eschewing the chance to remain with the drinks brand in Champ Cars next year, the Austrian has been touting himself about the F1 paddock in search of either a race or test role. Although there appear to be few of either on offer as the series heads into its winter break, Klien remains confident that his previous experience will carry him through.
The 23-year old Austrian was invited to meet representatives from a number of teams, and was apparently informed that he is 'a strong candidate' for next season, although he is reluctant to disclose where those opportunities lie.
"It was a good weekend and I had very useful meetings with teams which clearly recognise that I can bring the speed and experience necessary to contribute to their success," Klien said, "Of course, it was frustrating not to be racing at Interlagos, but it has confirmed my determination to be in
Formula One next season.
"There is a lot of rumour and speculation about the driving opportunities for 2007, so it's useful to know what the teams really want, and to understand what my role is in their plans. I am excited by the things they have told me, and I'm going to be working hard to finalise the best opportunity in the coming weeks."
Klien has been strongly linked to a role at Spyker next season, but also has opportunities at Super Aguri and Honda.
