Despite previously stating that it had 'no plans' to hold an official launch of its 2008 challenger, McLaren has now confirmed that it will now hold a launch event for its new car in the New Year.
The team has signalled its intention to simply hold an exclusive test of the new car at Jerez on the second week of January, but has now performed a u-turn by revealing that it will take the wraps off the MP4-23 at the Mercedes-Benz museum in Stuttgart on 7 January, a day after the new Ferrari is revealed at Fiorano.
When the car, which will be driven by Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen, will hit the track for the first time has still to be specified, although
ITV-F1 reports that the initial track running is set to take place on 8 January – a day after the launch.
