Glock fastest in final practice.

Just as fellow German Adrian Sutil had on Friday morning, Timo Glock made the most of a well-timed lap to claim top spot in a rain-affected final practice session as the Italian Grand Prix splashed its way towards what could be a dramatic qualifying hour.

Although the final 60 minutes of preparation were declared wet as the cars ventured out of pit-lane, the light precipitation again turned significantly heavier midway though, causing a lull in proceedings until the teams felt confident enough to risk their machinery - and drivers - in the extreme conditions later on.

Although he wasn't the first to top the timesheets, Glock's early 1min 35.464secs effort was good enough to keep him on top of the pile through to the chequered flag - which, this time, came at the appointed time, rather than ahead of schedule as it had on day one.

The Toyota man headed an all-German top three at the end, ahead of Sebastian Vettel and Nico Rosberg, with Toyota team-mate Jarno Trulli and protégé Kazuki Nakajima rounding out the top five. The six tenths separating Glock from Vettel hinted as the disparity induced by the rain, with Trulli over a second adrift of his colleague and fully 10.8secs splitting top and bottom, where Lewis Hamilton dwelled after eight soaking laps for McLaren. Glock, meanwhile, completed a session-high 15 tours, with Vettel and Rosberg racking up ten and twelve respectively.

Only Hamilton, team-mate Heikki Kovalainen and Friday pacesetter Kimi Raikkonen failed to break into the 1min 30s, with the majority of the field registering something in the 1min 37secs bracket, headed by seventh-placed David Coulthard and tailed by 15th-placed Jenson Button. The Honda driver, however, was among those to be caught out by the conditions, with the first and second chicanes proving especially tricky.

The biggest question now hangs over what set-up to adopt for qualifying. Should the day dry out like it did on Friday, teams will be tempted to run appropriate settings but, with more rain - potentially the worst of the weekend - predicted for raceday, that could be a costly mistake....
