Force India F1 chief technical officer Mike Gascoyne has said that the Silverstone-based outfit can still break its duck this season and score some points, even though there are now only four races left.

Although Adrian Sutil came close to taking a fantastic fourth place finish at the rain lashed Monaco Grand Prix back in May - until he was taken out by the Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen with just nine laps to go - there have been few other occasions when either he or team-mate Giancarlo Fisichella have threatened to get into the top ten - let alone the top eight.

Indeed Sutil's best finish thus far in '08 is a 13th place at the Belgian Grand Prix, while Fisichella's best is a tenth place finish in Spain and two twelfth places in Malaysia and Bahrain.

Gascoyne remains quietly optimistic however that they can score with the Ferrari-powered VJM01 and he has picked out the inaugural race in Singapore and the Japanese GP as the mostly likely places they might do it.

"If you look at the last two or three races since the introduction of our seamless shift gearbox we have clearly taken a step forward in competitiveness. We want to maintain that and I think we have still got chances to pick up some points," he said in an exclusive interview with Crash.net Radio.

"Monza could have been one of those occasions, it didn't turn out to be, but I think those chances - in maybe Singapore or Fuji - will come along again and we need to be there to take advantage of them."

Asked about next weekend's event in South East-Asia, Gascoyne added that it should be a great addition to F1: "It is going to be a very interesting event," he continued. "We are all looking forward to it.

"It is going to be a unique thing the race in Singapore - with the nature of the track and with it being a night time event. It is quite nice this year with Valencia and Singapore to go a couple of new places.

"Of course it is going to be difficult as we have got to work on a different time zone. But having said that we are very use to going into places for four or five days and coping with jetlag and I don't think it will really affect us."

So would a wet race be the best chance for FIF1 to get points?
