Murray Walker: Autocourse the F1 bible.

Autocourse is the Formula 1 'bible' and 'a great publication' – that is the view of the sport's much-loved veteran commentator Murray Walker.

Though he does not have the full set – stretching back all the way to 1951 – Walker has long been an avid collector of the prestigious motorsport annual, published by Crash Media Group since 2004 and edited by esteemed and seasoned grand prix journalist Alan Henry for the past 20 years.

This year's book, as is traditional, will include a foreword written by the newly-crowned F1 World Champion, Lewis Hamilton.

“I won't say I've got them all,” Walker admitted in an interview with Crash.net. “I wish I had – but I do have a great row of them going back to about 1975 up to now. As I have repeatedly said to people, I think it's an absolutely fantastic publication – it's my motorsport bible, particularly in terms of Formula 1.

“I was very distressed when Richard Poulter pulled out and it was taken over by someone else who didn't do it as well, but now that Bryn [Williams – Crash Media Group managing director] and all the rest of the guys are doing it, it's more than back to its old standard and I think it's a great publication.”

Indeed, so much of a fan is Walker of Autocourse that this year the 85-year-old has contributed a testimonial to it, stating: 'If I could only buy one book a year it would be Autocourse. For comprehensive coverage of the season, stunning pictures and sheer enjoyment it has no equal. It is my motorsport bible.'

One of the most eagerly-anticipated features of Autocourse is Henry's 'Top Ten Drivers'. Over the decades such F1 greats as Michael Schumacher, Fernando Alonso, Alain Prost, Ayrton Senna, Nelson Piquet, Nigel Mansell, Damon Hill, Alan Jones, Niki Lauda, Emerson Fittipaldi, Sir Jackie Stewart, Jim Clark and – last year – Lewis Hamilton amongst others have occupied the coveted number one position.

yep i switched last year after stupidly buying the appalling official f1 book. You would think with the money and image of f1 they would have the best book - they don't - looks like they are just trying to make as much money out of usfans as they possibly can... I didn't know if to laugh or cry the other day - have you seen how much the f1 mouse mat is of the official site...!!! £250
