Lewis Hamilton has vowed to 'enjoy himself a little bit more' as defending Formula 1 World Champion in 2009 than he did en route to the crown in 2008 - a season during which he 'didn't go out, didn't socialise [and] stayed in his hotel every night of the race weekends'.

The McLaren-Mercedes star has revealed that so intense was the pressure on him this year that he was barely afforded the luxury of socialising - but the approach clearly paid off as he secured the title at the close of the campaign.

Now he has achieved his goal, however, the 23-year-old has promised that he will be able to relax a bit more next season - even if he insisted that does not mean he will be taking his eye off the ball on the race track.

"Next year I am going to enjoy myself a little bit more," the sport's youngest-ever world champion is quoted as having said by F1SA. "It doesn't mean I'm going to be partying all the time; it just means I will have more time with my friends and hopefully get to do more social things.

"I feel a lot less pressure that's for sure, now that the country and the people know I can do it, so I think we'll see.

"There was so much pressure on me this year that I didn't go out, I didn't socialise, I stayed in my hotel every night of the race weekends. People say 'you get to travel to all these countries', but I never really get to see anything because I'm in my hotel room the whole time.

"I want to enjoy it more because I deserve to, and I can do that as well as do a good job."
