Kimi Raikkonen is to indulge his second love of rallying before the 2009 Formula 1 season gets into gear, after it was revealed the 2007 world champion will take part in Finland's famous Arctic Lapland Rally later this month.
Raikkonen has already hinted that he would like to try his hand at rallying once he hangs up his F1 helmet [see separate story – click here
], and Dutch publication Blik Op Nieuws
reports that the Finn is to join countryman and fellow title-winner Mika Hakkinen on the annual event.
The outing forms part of the Finnish rally championship and will be held from 22-24 January. Raikkonen is expected to take to the wheel of a Fiat Abarth S2000, with 1998 and 1999 F1 World Champion Hakkinen – who has competed on the rally before – driving a Mitsubishi Lancer.
Seventeen-time grand prix winner Raikkonen's older brother Rami is a well-known rally driver back in his homeland, and Finns have traditionally shone in the discipline, with 14 drivers' titles in the World Rally Championship in 32 years.
