F1 Driver of the Day: German GP

The German Grand Prix at Hockenheim saw Fernando Alonso extend his championship advantage, with a lights-to-flag win from pole allowing him to increase his lead over Mark Webber in the standings.

The Spaniard was under pressure throughout in a race that team boss Stefano Domenicali likened to a 67 lap qualifying session as he was forced to see off the challenge of Sebastian Vettel and Jenson Button.

Vettel produced a solid drive to finish second on the road, although the Red Bull man would end the race classified fifth after a post-race penalty for overtaking Button by putting four-wheels off the track – which moved the McLaren man up to second on his strongest weekend since China back in April.

Kimi Raikkonen therefore also clinched a podium finish for Lotus after a quiet race for the Finn with Kamui Kobayashi in fourth after a fine showing for Sauber – which included team-mate Sergio Perez also scoring with sixth.

There were also points for Michael Schumacher, Mark Webber, Nico Hulkenberg and Nico Rosberg, but who impressed you most?
