If ever there was a race where the Driver of the Day was something of a foregone conclusion, then the 2013 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix may well have been that race – but then again, someone else might have caught your eye under the lights of Yas Marina...
Out front, no-one got close to newly-crowned four-time champion Sebastian Vettel who produced a simply stunning performance to take a seventh successive victory, with no-one able to get within half a minute of the German despite him being told to take it easy before the race had even hit half distance.
Mark Webber proved to be his 'closest' challenger on race day having produced a fine performance to qualify on pole, with the Australian battling ahead of the Mercedes of Nico Rosberg when the pair swapped to the medium compound tyre – having slipped back to third at the start.
Rosberg completed the podium to achieve what he felt was the maximum result possible for Mercedes and was again 'best of the rest', while Romain Grosjean was a solid fourth for Lotus despite his recent run of podium successes coming to an end.
A decision to go with soft tyres for the final stint allowed Fernando Alonso to take fifth – despite a dramatic run off-track as he exited the pits after his second stop – while Paul di Resta's performance in taking sixth place as one of only two drivers to complete the race with a single stop was impressive to say the least.
Seventh for Lewis Hamilton was the result of being stuck in traffic for a vital spell early on, while Felipe Massa was left to rue not going with soft tyres on his final stint as he took eighth – with Sergio Perez and a one-stopping Adrian Sutil completing the scorers.
Elsewhere, Jenson Button failed to score but showed his ability to manage his tyres on a monster final stint, with a damaged front wing on lap one ruining his planned strategy.
He wasn't the only person who should have scored who failed to either, with a drivethrough penalty for an unsafe release in the pits costing Nico Hulkenberg dear.
But who impressed the most? Is it simply a foregone conclusion or did someone other than the dominant victor grab your attention?
