Who will be the best of the F1 2010 newcomers?

At least four and possibly five new teams are set to swell the F1 grid in 2010, bringing to an end a decade-and-a-half long era dominated by manufacturers and fields of no more than 20 cars – but which of the newcomers do you feel is likely to perform the best?

Will it be USF1, the first of the four confirmed new entries to begin preparations on its challenger, but a squad dogged by cynicism regarding the seriousness of its venture, with few concrete announcements and a base the other side of the Atlantic to most other teams in the heart of NASCAR country in North Carolina..?

Or perhaps it will be Campos Meta, the Spanish operation run by former grand prix ace Adrian Campos, with one driver already confirmed in the shape of 2008 GP2 Series runner-up Bruno Senna, nephew of legendary three-time F1 Word Champion Ayrton..?

How about Manor Grand Prix, a team that many surmise will soon be renamed Virgin F1, with billionaire entrepreneur Richard Branson injecting significant funding into the Sheffield-based concern that has already pulled off its first coup in securing the services of highly-rated Toyota refugee Timo Glock..?

Lotus F1 was the last of the four to be granted an official entry following the withdrawal announcement of BMW, meaning the Malaysian-backed, Norfolk-based effort is behind all of its fellow newcomers in terms of getting everything ready in time for 2010 – but with the technical talents of Mike Gascoyne on-board and the experienced and rapid Jarno Trulli expected to join as lead driver, progress should on paper be swift...

Finally, out of the ashes of BMW has arisen Qadbak-Sauber, which is awaiting confirmation from governing body the FIA to be able to compete next year. Peter Sauber well knows how to run an F1 team, and all manner of experienced drivers have been linked to an outfit that has a ready-made base and a wealth of expertise behind it...should it only be allocated a slot.
