Who will be fastest of the 'new team drivers'?

All eyes will be on Bahrain this weekend as the much anticipated 2010 Formula 1 World Championship gets underway with plenty to look out for.

From Michael Schumacher's return to the sport, to champion Jenson Button's defection to McLaren, to the host of new faces set to adorn the grid, the 2010 season is tipped to be one of the most exciting of recent years.

One of the big stories over the winter has been arrival of three brand new teams - Lotus Racing, Virgin F1 and Hispania Racing - and the return of another - BMW Sauber.

Part of the FIA's plan to get more cars on the grid, while Toyota and BMW fell by the wayside and US F1 never quite made it, 24 cars still signals the largest F1 entry since 1997 - although on that occasion Lola failed to qualify for the sole race it entered.

As with any new team though, the scale of their task remains significant, particularly in the case of HRT, who won't have turned a wheel before the opening round.

While no-one is predicting a title challenge to match that of Brawn GP, it does mean a 'sub-championship' has broken out between the four teams and eight drivers to see who will have achieved the most by the season's end...
