The williams system on the F1 car has 2 electric motors, one is connected to the flywheel of the energy store the other is connected to the gearbox, when under braking the motor on the back of the gearbox turns into a generator which provides electrical power to the other motor which spins the flywheel. To harvest that stored energy the system reverses and the motor on the flywheel provides power to the motor on the gearbox. I suspect that the sytem devised by Williams for Audi will be similar but instead of a single gearbox motor there are two motors mounted one on each of the two front wheels and one on the flywheel, as far as the 24 hour lemans race was concerned the stored energy could be harvested at 7 points on the track and only when the car speed was above 120kph.
What a fantastic test of the Williams system, 24 hours of continious running at race pace - that should be okay then. Porsche also have some of their gt3 cars equiped with the system
