Actually, I feel you should do that whoever you are interviewing, not just champions. Ask probing questions by all means, question their answers, ask them to justify their claims, but always treat them with the respect and consideration you'd expect yourself if you were the one being interviewed. Sadly, a lot of modern journalism consists poking big names with the sharp end of a pencil and writing their answers down using a crayon.
