Zz, yes I realised what Vettel was getting at, and like you I was disappointed to hear a driver thinking in terms of whether or not he needed to pass someone on the track. It also tells us that Vettel, sitting in fourth or fifth at the time, still thought his Red Bull was vastly superior to the Mclarens and Ferraris and didn't seem to appreciate how much progress they've made. I also agree with you that the tyre rule is a Mickey Mouse rule and just like Bernie's short cut plans, the push to pass buttons, and the idea of shuffling the grid etc, are all just avoiding the real problem that good drivers and cars cannot get past lesser drivers and slower cars at most tracks.
