Alonso signed to drive for Ferrari because he was given number 1 status. After all, he's a double world champion who is said by many to be the most complete driver in the paddock.
Really? Which of the top drivers hasn't shown him some manners? Eg. Lewis Hamilton showed him a clean pair of heels at Mclaren and Jenson Button simply drove round him in Canada this year when he was wasting time behind a slower car.
He cares only about being number 1 and if it means being given victories he's still happy with that. That's not being a winner, is it? That the racing loving public would feel his winning the championship to be nothing more than a pyrrhic victory does not matter to him.
