Why does FOTA as an organisation need to charge membership fees? Since there are only 13 teams eligible for membership, its not as if they are charging a fee to keep the riff-raff out. What costs does FOTA incur? It might need to hire a room now and again for a meeting, but I'd think it more likely that one of the members would offer to host a meeting at their own offices. Remember how they often use to meet on Briatore's yacht? FOTA doesn't need to have any permanent staff and surely teams like Mclaren or Ferrari can take turns getting one of their admin staff to do the meeting organisation, photocopying etc. If they want to prepare a tech proposal for the FIA then teams would second staff to work on those joint projects. So why does it need to charge membership fees? To me, it sounds like bureaucratic thinking that has lost sight of the objective.
