If you go back a few years Andrew you have John Surtees who had some success as a team owner or even further back to Jack Brabham who won the WDC for his own team, don't think we'll see that again. I'd agree with you though, the chances of anyone being a successful (independant) team owner now are slim and it's a potentially huge money pit even for someone as wealthy as Schumacher, I'm sure he'd be a great team adviser of some sort though.
