I'm not sure Wilson was ever given a 'second chance' or even 'fired' by Jaguar. He was drafted into Jaguar from Minardi mid season to replace Pizzonia. At the end of that year (his first season) he lost the drive as Jaguar needed a pay driver and Wilson didn't have the cash (remember his bizzare investment scheme?). In went Christian Klien with Red Bull backing.
The point is, a single season isn't really enough to tell who has it and who doesn't. Maldonado could easily have been written off last year, but his GP2 years tell us he takes a while to get there.
