If the scorer is not the supreme acknowledged expert of a sport then there is no point competing. What the opening races of 2012 have surely shown is that when the rules are so tight that all the top teams are in the same game, there are quite a few damn near perfect drivers to watch and enjoy. Anyone who thinks they can spot clear air between the talents of Alonso, Button, Hamilton, Rosberg, Raikonnen, Grosjean, Perez, Maldonado and maybe several more is not a fan of the sport but a whiner. But I guess couch potatoes will always want an athlete to identify with. I could easily attach myself to any of these great talents - only identifying with Button and Hamilton because one is Westcountry and the other is English, and because I therefore find it easier to appreciate their sense of humour. If only Schumacher were doing better... he's funny too.
