"I understand money gets a lot of drivers in F1, but it should be talent that keeps them in the sport."
F1 is a platform for companies to expose their brands to the public and in turn generate revenue for both themselves and the stakeholders of the sport. In a capitalist society, how are teams supposed to spend tens of millions of dollars competing in F1 each year without drivers that bring sponsorship? Without his Santander backing even Alonso wouldn't be in F1. There's not a single driver in F1 who would be there if all his financial backing disappeared. It's what this sport thrives on.
