Another good poll question would have been "Was it the right call from McLaren to get rid of Hamilton?" Because I can't possibly believe that they actually wanted him to stay. Perez signed very shortly after Hamilton and Mercedes announcement and you do not work out a contract with someone in that short of a time. It is a long process with negotiations before you come to terms and agree to sign a contract. Even with a newcomer such as Perez joining a top team, it takes longer than a few hours.
As for how good he will do in Mercedes, it all depends on the lottery of how good their car will be. All the teams have very skilled designers and staff, and a big portion of who will have the best car is down to luck because during development they cant compare with their competitors until the start of the season when it is too late to make any big or fundamental changes to the package.
