IMHO, Massa has been the star employee any team wants. He played second to MS, second to KR, stepped up to #1 when KR was just flaying around, the back to #2 when FA shows up. He has done for the most part what Ferrari have asked of him. Since the accident he hasn't had anything spectacular to go on, which is sad b/c I like Massa a lot. There aren't too many drives in the paddock will take "Fernando is faster than you" like he did.
In the end Ferrari know there are plenty of faster drives out there faster than Massa, but will they take orders like Massa? Will it up set the team harmony and balance? Massa might not be the fastest, but he doesn't rock the boat and that worth a lot.
I think Massa knows if he was ever to win a title he would have already done so. He knows his opportunity has probably passed, and now is just collecting checks and getting to drive a Ferrari week in and week out. Not really a bad place to be in my book.
