The alternative would be for all teams to go looking for their own version of Adrian Newey, who can generally hit the ground running on day 1 and just tweak his car as the season goes along. With the current testing regulations, it seems like nothing less will do.
By the way, that was not an anti-RBR or pro-Ferrari post. The same has applied to Mercedes and Ross Brawn, who I'm sure would have liked some extra test sessions to iron out the issues his cars have been facing since Australia.
