It appears that today's F1 driver are more specialized than those of yesteryear. Gurney, Clark, G. Hill, Andretti are some examples of F1 drivers who also excelled in other motorsport disciplines. Andretti, arguably being the more successful. F1 champion, USAC champion, CART champion, IROC champion, Indy 500 winner, Daytona 500 winner and Sebring winner.
It appears the transition from F1 to other series, or from others to F1, is more difficult today. The driver who made the biggest successful transition, is John Surtees.
