PdR who went the other way is also not much (if any) better than mediocre in F1, but did win the championship in DTM...So it's pretty clear these championships are two different animals.
One could in fact raise the question if Mercedes' decision to run PdR in DTM instead of F1 after he took down the F3 title (beating Vettel in the process) wasn't the wrong one as he might have picked up a driving style that doesn't necessarily work out in a single seater...Although an exceptional driver might be expected to recognise and fix that of course.
