Mercedes has a say in the team retaining Diresta. So even though he brings no sponsorship he is standing on the shoulders of a giant.
It's like when Kazuki Nakajima was in Williams when Williams had Toyota engines.
Sutil is better funded than any of his competitors for the seat (medion, capri-sun, techart, etc).
Maybe with the exception of Bruno. But Bruno hasn't shown the speed of Sutil.
Sutil's parents are well off. And they have surrounded him with a marketing ****nal of lawyers and publicists. He's a rich kid. The typical F1 driver.
Kamui has the least sponsored, he could be Sutil's match in outright speed. But Sutil has proven to be more consistent than Kamui. The team wants consistent finishes and points.
If Kamui decided to go to Indy, and drive for a Honda team he would all of a sudden see sponsors pouring from the sky. Japanese companies can be very nationalistic about which brands they support.
