There really shouldn't be a competitive advantage for any of the engines anymore as the FIA removed engine competition as a competitive element to cut costs.
These manufacturers are now spenging millions on these new engines but in the end their relative performance has to be equalled out, or their will ultimately be only one manufacturer left. Imagine if Ferrari now builds a great engine that's good for 3 tenths a lap on your average track over the others and the FIA says ok this will be like that for the next five years...Merc and Renault might as well quit right away if that were to be the case, cause they'll be running behind everyone and their mother that happens to have the Ferrari engine for 5 years...
It's kinda stupid really...
