This is just Ron countering the fact that Lewis is shooting off at the mouth a bit much. Seriously, how many drivers do you know talk about possibly returning to their first team at some point in the future, BEFORE they have even turned a wheel for their new team? Mercedes must be cringing with some of the comments Lewis is making and I very much doubt he will ever drive a McLaren again.
On another point, McLaren has always paid their drivers well, but it is true that the corporate expectations have been great. Pay they will, but they will not let a driver call the shots, and Lewis was attempting to do just that. What Ron should have said is that they let him go on principle.
Lewis won't likely win a race next year, but he could win several the next. How he manages next year's challenges will be telling for his career.
