tony. ferrari and renault used a v6 1.5 engine, with bmw using a 4 cyl production car engine block! the bmw was able to produce 1500 bhp in quali trim.others used 4 cyl engines. turbo boost was phenomenal. the new formula has a regulated pressure boost of quite a low pressure. that is the way that fia will limit bhp to 750 bhp, together with a restriction on fuel. the engines began using exotic and toxic metals, and so were eventually replaced by na v10s. but the fia want to REDUCE speeds. yes, if there was unrestricted v6 turbos, we would probably see 1800 to 2000 bhp by now, but it will not happen.
