You just have to face the fact that today isn't the past. You cant come up with a brilliant idea and get the world championship as you could do in the past, long, long ago.
In F1 the machine is a huge part of the sport, to compare it to the past is a folly since advancements for both the safety of the driver as the limitations of racing have moved on. You can't remove them, so you have to work around them to recreate the spirit of the past. It might not be pretty, but denying won't help you either.
