Contrary to public belief, the Portimao Circuit was built to host the WSBK Championship and possibly the MotoGp. Yes, F1 tested there and they were given clearence for testing F1 car's but the ultimate goal was to bring competitive bike racing to the Algarve.
But let's be honest, it's not the matter of the 35 million euros fee, that's peanuts.. Are you joking? We're in trouble, but if it all came down to that fee, compared to the millions of euros the region could make in just one weekend, i'm pretty sure that fee would sort itself out.
The problem and it's soution lies with what Ecclestone wants and that is not clear at all.
