I think DC's comments are out of order since the money isn't coming out of his pocket, and he has no connection with Melbourne or it's people. However he's correct in blaming narrow-mindedness for the opposition towards the event. It's not as black and white as 'what we pay to host it' and 'how much profit the tickets make'. There's economic stimulus through hospitality and retail outlets, the likelihood of attendees returning to the city for another holiday or encouraging their friends to. So much more than people choose to see....
