...but on the topic of "pay to play"...what really is wrong with a driver buying his seat? I'm not getting it...is this the Olympics that we're talking about? I don't think so. It's professional motor-racing. If you can bring in $1M through sponsors independent of the team doesn't that make you a much more viable candidate than a guy who has no personal sponsorship but is a 1/2-sec per lap faster? Sounds like basic economics to me. He can always be a *real* team player and join the financial consortium backing the team, and pay a faster driver.
