Richard, re the "U" engine configuration, remember me talking to you about a job I done on a Ruston 16 cylinder parallel twin (marine propulsion)?, this engine configuration has 2 crankshafts geared together, this design was first introduced by Bugatti in 1915 (U16).
Re dublex configuration, first introduced by Wright before WW11, CYCLON R-3350 18 CYLINDER RADIAL 3700HP.
