Most people are blaming the stewards for this - but I think the design of the F1 cars is a chief reason. Current F1 cars due to its low ride height have a high tendency to aquaplane by itself if hits standing water on the track, even with no mistake by the driver. With concrete walls around, that prospect is highly dangerous. I really hope the 2014 designs can reduce aquaplaning.
