Nothing to do with race pace during testing. The cold temperatures in Melbourne caused the tyre problems. Ferrari were as badly affected as Red Bull - Alonso got ahead of Vettel via pit stop strategy, not superior race pace. Will Grey had an excellent article on this called "Tyre trends to decide season". You should google it - it's the best analysis of the race I've come across.
