This year the tyres has replaced the blowing by exhaust gasses of the diffuser as the determining factor to win races as the top teams has caught up with RBR and maybe even improved upon their system.
The tyres trick is to get them up to the right temperature as quickly as possible and then keeping them at the right temperature for the duration of their stint, the more refined this process is the longer the tyre stint.
The trick in managing this is in getting the right amount of heat from the brakes to the tyres.
Qualifying is not as important as it used to be as the car will not be in qualifying conditions at anytime during the race, a car will start a race in qualifying trim on the same tyres but 150kg heavier.
