On the tire subject. It's often been stated that the only contact any car has with the road is through the tires' contact patches. It's the engineers responsibility to make the car work optimally with the tires. The fact that everybody gets the same tires just levels the playing field in this area of performance. The real problem is that there is so little testing time with the tires. If there were a two year lead time of new tires and ample testing opportunities tires wouldn't be the differentiators they is now. But, this is the policy of the FIA who have traditionally relied on tires to spice up the racing.
