Re the “swerving from side to side because an F1 car was running out of fuel”. There was a time when a metal fuel tank’s was dropped inside a space in the car and just filled through a big funnel and when the engine was felt to be cutting out swerving the car was common practice, those days are long gone. The modern F1 fuel tank is fitted with a very complex set of baffles, these baffles are fitted with one way trap doors to prevent fuel moving around inside the tank (prevent fuel slosh) which is something to be avoided.
