They are in a bit of a sticky situation. I may be naive and not entirely knowledgeable of the facts, but I guess that some of the appeal of Perez to Mclaren was the sponsorship he will bring when Vodaphone withdraw at the end of the season.
Whitmarsh now finds himself in the unenviable situation of having to balance the interests of the team and keeping Perez happy, to guarantee the sponsors coming on board, as well as keeping Jenson happy. It has overtones of the Hamilton/Alonso saga in the sense of conflicting interests throughout the team and we know how that all ended.
Someone has to take control in that team. Is Whitmarsh the man to do that? I don't think so.
