Provided he is medically OK to race in F1, those people saying "things have changed in F1 since he left" as an excuse to why he would fail need look no further than Kimi.
Kubica is a real loss to F1 if he decides to never come back. Easily had/has the potential to push for a WDC at the right team and a lot of the "smaller" teams would be trying everything they could to get him in one of their cars.
