the real issue is one tire supplier gets to choose which tires they bring to each event, like the one just previously sponsored by Santander (ahem) and they also engineer a spec of tire (I assume) to which ever spec they deem (who chooses their specification?)
The real question is, who are Pirelli building their tires for???? and is it correct to force teams to spend extra money guessing on one spec of tire, when the potential to have 2-3 manufacturers + more variety would ultimately cost less for the teams.
Is this about saving money or saving face?
Nothing is ever fair, fair is like justice, it's one of those noble lie things, the control tire is also a lie, be up front about it, bring in some better tires and force teams to agree to carry extra ballast if they start running away with it.
