While it is probably the correct decision the timing of it is terrible. There is no reason that the shortfall in these tires could not have been known during the pre-season testing. If this shakes up the order of things it is not fair to the teams who have had success this season.
As to the people who say that they will not buy Pirelli road tires because of the current situation it is probably to get Pirelli's attention. But perception is reality. Their road tires already have a reputation of wearing out faster than most so this certainly just adds to that.
