I am sure it was the great Kenny Roberts from the 70s GP motorbike series. That said "his aim was to win at the slowest possible speed."

IMHO I disagree, I would love to see things revert back to the days where you finished the race on the tyres you start with. (excluding punctures)
I am old enough to remember the good old days of Jackie Stewart et al broadsiding and smoking the tyres etc. Real racing for real men.
