The Mini WRC program isn't a good example because they were not even there for a full season so its barely time to market(like you can with a series thats a shadow of its former self) or even try to be competitive. But BMW have always said they want to race in a International series, and right now the only series they race in with factory Teams would be GT3 and DTM both of which have very minimal coverage outside Europe, I think it would make sense if they come back soon but this time as a engine Works deal like they did with Williams(which Honda are going to do with Mclaren) in the early 2000's except they would most likely continue with Sauber if they did go down this route.
