Imagine yourself as an executive sitting on either the Mercedes or Pirelli board of directors, two publicly traded companies, trying to decide how you will manage the damage to reputation your respective "sporting divisions" has created by playing cute with the rules. I think whatever respective fines either company receives may pale in comparison to the long term damage they have caused. Hopefully both will remain in F1 for the long haul but heads must roll.
